JOIN OUR TEAM

We're always looking for individuals who share our love for the outdoors and enjoy interacting with people to provide information and medical assistance when requested or needed.

What we're looking for

Medical Professionals

Whether you're a nurse, paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), a first responder, or someone with skills, your medical expertise is invaluable to helping ensure the safety of Mt. Timpanogos visitors.

Licensed Amateur Radio Operators

The primary means of communication on the team is amateur radio 2-meter bands. Your communication skills are essential for our operations.

CPR/AED Certification Required

All team members are required to obtain CPR/AED certification.

Developing Your Skills?

Occasionally, we accept individuals as "runners" who are in the process of acquiring specific skills. The more skills you have, the more opportunities you'll have to volunteer in different locations and positions.

What can you expect as a TERT volunteer?
We staff four locations on Mt. Timpanogos on weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

High Camp

The High Camp Team spends Friday and Saturday night on the mountain. During the day, team members are stationed at the Emerald Lake shelter and may hike to the summit and surrounding areas.

Trail Head

The two Trail Heads are staffed from late Friday afternoon through Sunday mid-afternoon. Members are a vital communication link and camp in the nearby campgrounds.

Background check conducted by Utah County Sheriff's Office

  • Membership is subject to the recommendation of the Utah County Sheriff's Office (UCSO) and the TERT Board.
  • The UCSO will vet volunteers before they are approved for membership. The vetting process can take some time so be sure to apply early.
  • NEW for 2024 Season - The UCSO will now be conducting annual background checks for all members, new and existing. No new information or forms are needed from existing members. If you choose to opt out of this, you will opt out of serving with TERT.
Pre-season training in spring

Before "on the mountain" season starts, we hold two all-day training sessions in the spring.

New & current members are required to attend at least one of these sessions.

Indoor training

This session is usually held at the UVRMC Hospital in Provo.

We have a full day of TERT instruction and medical training. The hours may be used for re-certification. We cover various aspects of medical training, radio protocol overviews, and introduce our TERT team leaders.

Outdoor training

For our outdoor training, we head to Aspen Grove. We'll focus on team protocols, backpacking skills, basic rope and ice axe techniques, radio operation, medical scenarios, and helicopter protocols.

Voluntary dedication

It's essential to note that the work at TERT is entirely voluntary.

Our members generously donate their time, financial resources, personal equipment, and even their transportation to the trailhead.

You'll need to supply your own personal gear, including a backpack, clothing, food, radio equipment, sleeping bag, and more.

The expected commitment for the season is to spend two weekends on the mountain or three single-day shifts at Stewart Falls or early season trail head assignments.
